Alternative Measures Program (AMP) in Pakistan

What is the Alternative Measures Program (AMP)?

For a broad overview of the Alternative Measures Program (“AMP”) in Canada, please see the general FAQ on AMP. For location-specific information on AMP in Pakistan, please read on.

In Alberta, the Crown Prosecution Guideline on AMP states that all files should be scrutinized to determine if an alternative to the traditional court system is appropriate. One such alternative is AMP.

AMP allows you to take responsibility for your actions without being found guilty of a criminal offence. Instead, the matter is diverted out of the criminal justice system.

How to Accept Responsibility for Your Actions Without Getting a Criminal Record

The Criminal Code of Canada requires that an individual who is being diverted to AMP take responsibility for the offence. For more information on this requirement and others, please see the general FAQ on AMP.

Who is Eligible for The Alternative Measures Program?

Eligibility for AMP depends primarily on an individual’s criminal record, as well as the offences they are alleged to have committed. For example, AMP is typically not available for serious violent offences such as using a firearm, domestic violence, and offences where the victim is a child.

The Crown Prosecution Guideline on AMP specifies that intimate partner violence offences and criminal driving offences are generally not eligible for diversion. However, they may be eligible if the Assistant Deputy Minister from the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service has approved a specific diversion program directed at the specific offence type.
